This first weekend in August has plenty of things to do here in KC to get out and enjoy this fantastic, unseasonably cool summer weather with your family.

• Corn Festival at the City Market, Saturday
• Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! at Starlight Theater
• Soccerpalooza at Zona Rosa Shopping Center (player registration was due July 1, but you can still go and watch)
• THE WIGGLES AT SPRINT CENTER OMG! Saturday (There are still some tickets available, it appears)
• Clown Day at Crown Center, Saturday 11am-1pm. Y'all, I can not post this without telling you how much I, personally speaking, despise clowns. I know, I'm weird. But they scare me, I can't help it. You will not bump into me at this event, but have fun anyway.

Weekend Roundup: What to do in KC this weekend.

Here's whats happening around town this weekend, while we all try and stay cool.

• The Duck Derby - Country Club Plaza, benefitting Children's TLC  (Funky Mama will be there!)

• Zoo Tales at the Kansas City Zoo (the 4th Saturday of the month)
• Friday evening - Sunset Safari at the Zoo, too!  
• U Bug Me at The Coterie Theatre
• Cinderella - performed by Paul Mesner Puppets

 Remember to pack extra water for everyone if you do spend time outside in the heat. And don't forget seatbelt buckles and other metal parts to the car or stroller can burn sensitive little legs and bellies! Keep a towel laying over carseats if you're going to be parked in the daytime sun for a long time.

There's no better way to let your little ones get out the wiggles than dancing around outdoors listening to music and hanging out with friends. One of the things I love about summer in Kansas City is all the outdoor concert spaces that come alive. 

 

• Park Place - Leawood (Tuesdays - Tonight is kids' favorite - Mr. Stinky Feet! starts at 6:30pm)
• Iron Woods Park - Leawood  (Thursdays)
• Matt Ross Community Center - Overland Park  (Wednesdays)
• Independence Square - Summer Concert & Movie series - (Tuesdays)
• Zona Rosa -Free Summer Concert Series - (Fridays & Saturdays)

Jiggle Jam winners, and other housekeeping.

So, I have some winners for the Jiggle Jam concert tickets to see Dan Zanes and everyone else rock KC.  I assigned everyone a number and then found a random number generator on the internet, and that's how I picked the names (if you even care, http://random.org, very helpful!)

So! I will be emailing the 4 winners today, and have a couple of Dan Zanes and friends new CD's for some people as well.  Thanks for participating!  And have fun at Jiggle Jam, I wish I could be there. But instead, we're taking that opportunity to spend 12 hours each way in the car with two little boys and a giant poodle to go visit some family over a long weekend. 

Yeah, I know. Sigh.
